KENT TOURIST ATTRACTIONS
Kent tourist attractions are abundant. Kent is traditionally known as “The Garden of England” and it certainly lives up to the name. The landscape is of rolling hills and wooded valleys, scattered with orchards and vineyards. Each season has its own joy to share with its visitors.
Why not visit one of the vineyards in Biddenden, Lamberhurst, Sandhurst and Tenterden for tours and tastings and perhaps to buy your favorite wine to take home.
Not only is Kent known for its vineyards but also for its hop gardens. Hops, used for making beer, are harvested in autumn. Oast houses are plentiful in this area as they were used to dry hops. There is a large collection of them at the Hop Farm Country Park located in Paddock Wood, near Tonbridge.
Royal Tunbridge Wells offers a wide variety of restaurants and eateries and choice of shops. Whether you choose to visit Royal Victoria Place; a very modern shopping experience or sample the delights of The Pantiles, famous for its colonnaded shopping street, you will not be disappointed.
Kent is home to some of the most magnificent castles: Tonbridge Castle, Leeds Castle and Hever Castle to name three.
If stately homes are your preference Penshurst Place is one of this country’s greatest medieval manors and Ightham Mote at Ivy Hatch is another gem. Knowle, at Sevenoaks, is England’s largest country house and set in a 1000 acre deer park. Chartwell at Westerham is Sir Winston Churchill’s former residence and has memorabilia on display that includes plans for the invasion of Normady’s beaches.
Of course if you are in any doubt of “things to do in Kent” then visit the Tourist Information Centre or Seven Wonders of the Weald.
